Where in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice?

The healthcare industry is ever-changing. Evidence-based practice (EBP)  Integrating EBP into service delivery improves the safety and quality of healthcare. EBP has many benefits to the healthcare delivery industry. EBP improves healthcare quality, improves patient outcomes, enhances patient satisfaction, reduces nurses’ burnout, and reduces healthcare costs (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018). The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) is a professional nursing association of nurse practitioners and students. AANP has over 104,000 members who network and collaborate to improve nursing and patient care (AANP). (n.d.a). Members’ benefits include networking, continuous education, advocacy, and access to up-to-date information (AANP). (n.d.b).

While exploring AANP’s website, I realized that EBP is evident. The areas in which EBP was apparent included research tabs and practice-related tabs. EBP guides the initiatives of AANP. I found an article that details the role of nurse practitioners in solving the opioid crisis through medically assisted treatment (AANP). (n.d.c). The information in this article insightfully documented the role of nurse practitioners in improving healthcare outcomes in opioid use disorders. The data in the graphs and infographics were provided to help understand the topic. The opioid crisis is a national crisis affecting many Americans (Lyden & Binswanger, 2019). This evidence can help nurse practitioners improve the quality of care and reduce care costs.

I should join a professional nursing association supporting the integration of EBP. As a nurse practitioner, I will positively impact lives and integrate EBP to implement culturally competent care. I will advocate for implementing care that improves healthcare outcomes, reduces healthcare costs, and improves healthcare quality. Joining AANP will allow me to network with fellow nurse practitioners to implement EBP to benefit my patients.
